The Dessert Lady

The Dessert Lady has been around town in different locations for many years now(downtown and also on Kirkman). Not long ago she relocated her establishment to the Dr. Philips area. Recently she invited a group of local restaurant and food bloggers to an event at her new place so we could try her many delicious desserts.

The Dessert Lady herself, Patti, was there and she was quite charming and it was great to spend time chatting with her about her desserts and her business.  Below are the pictures.

The Dessert Lady's one and only location is now at:
7600 Dr.Philips Blvd #78
Orlando, FL 32819
(407) 999-5696

Scott Joseph Pop-Up Dinner #2 at Quantum Leap Winery with East End Market

Saturday March 2nd, 2013, I attended the Scott Joseph Pop-Up Dinner #2 at Quantum Leap Winery with East End Market. "East End Market is a new up & coming public market opening in spring 2013 in the Audubon Park Garden District of Orlando. The market will showcase some of Central Florida’s top food entrepreneurs, tradespeople, artists, and chefs." Since East End Market isn't open yet they teamed up with Food Writer Scott Joseph and had a pop-up dinner at Quantum Leap Winery to showcase some of the chefs that will be serving food at the Market.

The featured chefs were Rhys & Alexia Gawlak of Cuts & Craft(appetizer & main course), Henry Salgado of Txokos Basque Kitchen and Spanish River Grill(Main Course),  Elisa Scarpa of Fatto in Casa(Dessert) & Jamie McFadden of Cuisiners Catering(appetizers)

I didn't get any photos of the appetizers but they were all really great, my favorite was the Smoked Duck "Ham Salad Sandwich" with roasted beet horseradish cream, Canadian bacon dust & house made pickles on a rye crostini. Another interesting appetizer was served in a tuna can.

Menu

The Winery was a great space to have the event in, the aroma of the wooden wine barrels was noticeable from the dinner tables.

It was a bit dark

ClandesDine Dinner

This past Saturday night I was able to attend a pop-up dinner presented by The Daily City and Chef Bryce Balluff, I've been anticipating this for dinner for a while.

Chef Bryce runs the Fork in the Road food truck and has an impressive resume.

The event was held during the cardboard art festival at Say It Loud, 1121 N. Mills Ave. The big orange building on the corner near BART.

It made for some really unique and interesting decor during the meal. Cardboard robots, cats, menacing fish and submarines decorated the space.

Music was provided by the Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra string quartet, playing a nice mix of classical songs along with Beatles and some movie theme songs.

The menu for ClandesDine was described by the chef as being inspired by being a kid. It included, Molecular PB&J with port wine jelly, Turducken Sausage, wild boar sausage meatballs, port wine pears & more. It was a wonderful evening with great company.

pb&j- Peanut Butter "Sand" - Port & Concord Grape Jelly- Torn Brioche

fish sticks- Royal Red Shrimp "Goujonettes", Vegetable Chips, Nitrogen Shattered "Million Island Dressing"
beans & weenies- Tur-du-cken Sausage, 23 Flavor BBQ Heirloom Beans, Crispy Herbs

Green Beans -  Blistered Haricot Vert, Crispy House Cured Bacon, Truffled Balsamic Glaze

ice cream float- Left Hand Milk Stout. Nitrogen Vanilla Ice Cream "Pearls"

cake & cookies- Raspberry Butter Cream, Chocolate Chip Cookie Crumble, Torn Chocolate Sponge
