Norman's Orlando

After years of anticipation, Norman's Orlando has finally opened on Sandlake.

We had dinner there this evening and it was an elegant and delicious experience. 

Norman's 3.0 is located in the Dellagio Plaza on Sandlake Road. 7924 Via Dellagio Way, Orlando, FL 32819

They have a bar, patio and the main dining room. The decor is stylish and the service is formal. Our server was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable.

We started with some bread rolls, served with butter and salt and pepper. I wasn't really sure what the intention was with the salt and pepper so I just sprinkled it on the butter after I spread it. These rolls had a unique texture. 

We started with a seafood appetizer Shrimp Ceviche with the salsa of life and cucumbers, this was tangy.

Next up was my favorite of the meal...

Brazilian styled Shrimp & Mussel chowder $20 - made with saffron, orange, star anise in coconut milk. This was very tangy and so delicious I could have easily ate another full bowl. This seems to be chef Norman's twist on Moqueca

For my entree I had the scallop dish.

Seared Diver Harvested Sea Scallops over fermented black bean sauce. Served with tortellini filled with a very creamy cheese.

As you can see the scallops were seared perfectly. The sauce with black beans which was a unique choice. 

The tortellini was filled with boniato and queso fresco. I had never heard of boniato, but apparently it's a relative of the yam and it's popular in South Florida where chef Norman has a lot of history. Boniato

My dining companion opted for the fish entree. Pan-cooked fillet of Key West Yellowtail Snapper - served with Swiss chard and garlicky mashed potatoes and citrus butter.  $39

We finished with a decadent dessert. 

Dedo de Chocolate (chocolate finger) - Chipotle chocolate mousse salted butter caramel, macadamia bark, chocolate sorbet - $13

This was quite rich and delicious.

Overall dinner was excellent and we will definitely be returning. 

Here is the menu from the night we went, they will possibly change the menu on a regular basis so don't expect to see all the exact same items. Since my visit they have added an adobo pork dish. What will you choose?

Trucks & Tech is a mashup between two cultures - foodies and techies. Trucks & Tech II will be an Oktoberfest themed event featuring German inspired food from each food truck - participants are encouraged to come in costume. The event will be held on October 17th at 6:00pm at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando, Florida. Orlando--After over two successful years serving the communities of Orlando including an Orlando Weekly ‘Best of Orlando’--Best Food Truck win in 2013, sushi chef and food truck entrepreneur Al Ruiz has unveiled his latest in gourmet street fare.

“For over 2 years Fish Out Of Water Sushi Truck has experienced great success thanks to the people of Orlando. I have grown as a chef and with the help of talented chef and friend Lino Yi, I wanted to bring even more exciting food to Orlando’s streets.” said Ruiz.


“It's time to keep the vibe fresh and rebrand ourselves as we showcase our expanded offerings including ‘Truck Ramen’ and ‘Pork Belly Donuts,‘  I’m excited to announce our new name and a new logo - Sushi & Seoul On The Roll,” continued Ruiz.

With upward of 100 trucks and carts, Orlando’s street fare food scene continues to flourish.

Here are some sample menu items

Fleetwood mac and cheese, 6 cheese sauce with sichuan fried crab and shrimp.

Led Zeppelin tempura fish and chips. Two fresh white fish fillets fried in

Motley Crue Thai, decadent, garlic bar ribs. Marinated short ribs, grilled, and served over rice.

Slayer wings. Spicy asian marinated grilled hot wings. Served with hand cut frites and ranch dipping sauce.

Iggy Popcorn Shrimp basket. Asian tempura fried shrimp skewers, served with tempura skewered veggies and sweet chili sauce.

Queen's Thai Chicken Satay. Marinated curry, coconut,  chicken skewers, grilled and served over rice with thai peanut sauce.

Primus Thai Pork Satay. Marinated curry, coconut, pork belly skewers, grilled and served over rice with Thai peanut sauce.

Keith Richards So Baked Burrito. Thai style marinated beef salad, kimchi, tomatoes, spiced soy aoli, served over rice and rolled in a fresh tortilla.

Tools Thai beef salad lettuce wraps. Two lettuce wraps stuffed with Thai marinated beef and herbs over rice.

Ziggy Stardust thai star cookie ice cream sundae. Thai star cookies blended with home made vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate syrup, caramel and whipped cream.

The Bono burger. Traditional juicy lucy burger, a grilled beef burger patty stuffed with cheddar and monterey jack, topped with spicy asian pickles, and grilled onions, between a potato bun. Served with hand cut frites.

The Tommy Lee dog. LA style footlong hotdog wrapped in bacon, dipped in tempura and deep fried with spicy aoli, 6 cheese sauce and hand cut frites.

The NKOTB garbage plate. Bacon fried rice. A Southern take on a Chinese classic. Thai rice fried with herbs, veggies, and of course thick cut bacon.

Twisted Sister Thai rolls. 4 traditional Thai spring rolls deep fried served with hand cut sweet potato fries, sweet chili and thai peanut dipping sauce.

Ozzys egg rolls. and one veggie spring roll with tempura fried vegetable skewers. Served with a side of spicy ranch dipping sauce.

If you have ever wanted to explore these food trucks, this is the night to go with an adventurous group of eaters who love taking food photos and spotting them.
